Each day, the world impacts our communities and us. As teaching artists, we may arrive at a workshop to find an individual student or an entire class experiencing stress or crisis. Do you continue with the lesson as planned? What does co-regulation look like if we are as impacted as our students?

In this workshop, we’ll spend the first hour examining tools and practices for those moments when we find we unexpectedly need to pivot from the lesson plan to offer the class an opportunity to process, regulate, and connect with themselves and one another. In the second hour, we’ll explore this topic through the lens of holding space for an individual student in crisis, and what we can do for that student that’s within our role, goal, and control as teaching artists. Tips and reflection on what we can do to care for ourselves in these moments will also be threaded throughout the session.

This is a rare opportunity to gain valuable professional development through a workshop built on Bartol’s Trauma-Informed Practice at no cost to you or your organization.
