Creative reuse, also known as “upcycling,” is an affordable, low-waste practice of reimagining a material’s purpose. Through a mix of demonstrations and hands-on activities, this workshop invites teaching artists from all disciplines to explore techniques for integrating alternative materials and sustainable methods in their teaching, community work, and personal art practice.
Facilitator Julie Woodard is a multimedia artist who works with salvaged textiles, found objects, pigments and thread to create impressionistic landscapes, multimedia installations, functional sculptures, and wearable pieces that convey her passion for nature, memory, and creative reuse. With decades of experience working in Philadelphia’s education and cultural sector, Julie leads workshops and creative activations at local art centers, parks, schools, and community hubs throughout the city.
