Creative reuse is an affordable, low-waste practice of reimagining a material’s purpose. Through a mix of storytelling, idea sharing, and art-making, this virtual workshop invites teaching artists from all disciplines to explore techniques for integrating alternative materials and sustainable methods in their teaching, community work, and personal art practice. We'll discuss options for sourcing and preparing materials, as well as best practices for student engagement. Prior to the workshop, attendees will be provided with a list of suggested materials to have on hand for the art-making component.
Facilitator Julie Woodard is a multimedia artist and educator who works with salvaged textiles, found objects, pigments and thread to create impressionistic landscapes, multimedia installations, functional sculptures, and wearable pieces that convey her passion for nature, memory, and creative reuse. With decades of experience working in Philadelphia’s education and cultural sector, Julie leads workshops and creative activations at local art centers, parks, schools, and community hubs throughout the city.
